Letter to Coaches

  • October 9, 2018

In lieu of recent events regarding inappropriate behavior in locker rooms on the campuses of some schools across the state, I felt it was important to remind everyone about the hazing guidelines outlined in the OKCPS Student Athlete and Parent Handbook. During our back to school coaches meeting at your site, the Handbook was discussed, and further guidance is outlined in OKCPS Board Regulation F-19-R2.

Student safety is always our top priority, and I want to make sure we review our expectations with our student athletes to ensure their safety. Please review our guidelines with our student athletes today to make sure they fully understand that no form of hazing, bullying, or any other inappropriate behavior will be tolerated.

To tighten our safety practices and procedures, we now require each coach to provide a written plan for supervision of student athletes before, during, and after practices and games. Attached you will find a sample supervision plan that you can use as a guide. Please complete your plan and email it to your principal, site athletic director, and my office by November 1st. If you have any questions or need further guidance, please contact the athletic office for assistance.
