Translation/Interpretation Services

Parents have the right to translation and interpretation from an individual who has been certified as bilingual.
Bilingual Skills Certification
OKCPS has a Bilingual Skills Test, which all incoming bilingual paraprofessionals must take and pass before being hired. Any staff member in the building may also take the training and exam to become a certified translator and/or interpreter. To become certified, please contact Maria Peruch, mpperuch@okcps.org, (405) 587-0462.

IEP/504 translations may be requested through the Communications Department at oess@okcps.org, (405) 587-0424
School Document Translations
Please request site-level translations from OKCPS certified bilingual translators at your site. If no certified bilingual translator is available at your school site for the language needed, please complete the Translation & Interpretation Request Form.
Over the Phone Interpretation
For private meetings with non-English speaking parents, schools may also use over-the-phone interpretation services provided through Language Link which provides interpretation in over 240 languages at no cost to OKCPS families. To learn how to access the service, click here.
Foreign Transcripts
Our Communications Department provides translation of foreign transcripts for current OKCPS employees and students at no cost. Please note there could be a separate process for the evaluation of a transcript after it's been translated.
- For Newcomer Students (new to the United States and learning English): Transcripts should be collected by a Newcomer Academy. Foreign transcripts can also be sent to newcomers@okcps.org. Families can also contact Newcomer Graduation Specialists at each Newcomer Academy with questions about transcript translation and/or evaluation.
- English Learners (non-newcomer): If a student has a foreign transcripts, please contact the ELD Program Administrator team by emailing newcomers@okcps.org.
- Non-English Learners: To request translation of a foreign transcript, please send the scanned document to jigutierrez@okcps.org or mpperuch@okcps.org and specify the language of the document. Evaluation will be assessed on a case by case basis.
Processing takes between 3-7 business days, after which the translated file will be sent to the requester. Please note that the scanned document must be clear and readable. Light, blurry and unclear documents will not be translated.
Can I just put it into Google Translate?
Unfortunately, language is not so simple that it can be accurately translated via computer. Please don't translate more than a single word or phrase via online tools.
