OKCPS STUDENTS SERVE ON OKC YOUTH COUNCIL

(Oklahoma City, OK) - Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is proud to share that five of the 17 students on OKC Youth Council attend schools within the district. 

 

The Youth Council works with the City Council members City staff to learn about the challenges and successes of municipal government. The Youth Council will also represent their peers by  helping address issues affecting Oklahoma City’s youth in a series of meetings, seminars and more. Gloria Torres, District 6 OKCPS Board of Education Member, is a co-chair of the program.

 

“Having our students selected to be on the OKC Youth Council aligns perfectly with with our Profile of a Graduate, which is our goal to produce graduates who have strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving, communication and adaptability, among other things,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel “These students are the leaders of tomorrow and we are excited to see them building the future.”

 

The OKCPS students on the council are:

  • Stephanie Briones, Southeast High School senior

  • Emma Calingasan, Classen School of Advanced Studies junior

  • Audrey Copeland, Classen School of Advanced Studies Junior

  • Jose Gonzalez, U.S. Grant High School junior

  • Ashley Romero, Southeast High School senior
