Message to Families Regarding School Safety and Security
OKCPS Families,
As a fellow OKCPS parent, yesterday's headlines are my worst nightmare. Thousands of OKCPS employees come to work every day, and our highest ethical responsibility is to ensure your child's safety.
I want to assure you that, as much as we would like to, we can't predict and prevent every terrible thing from happening, but we are doing everything we can to make sure that your babies return to you safe after they've been in our care all day. Our schools are safe places where students are engaged in learning.
It's hard to feel powerless, but there are things we can do as parents. Talk to your student about safety and security. OKCPS has put together some resources for families that include how to access counseling services, how to talk to students about violence and information about why our safety and security protocols are in place. These resources are available on the district's website.
As we continue to keep the Broward County, Florida community in our thoughts and prayers, I encourage everyone to remain vigilant in working together to keep our schools safe - if you see something, say something.
We are here for you.
