‘Reapply in July’: OKCPS Encourages Volunteers to Renew Applications
OKCPS is currently preparing for the 2024-25 school year, and that includes planning to bring our invaluable volunteers back into our classrooms. Our dedicated volunteers play a vital role in our schools and in the lives of our students. Each year, our families, community members and others continue spending their personal time to volunteer in our schools, making a meaningful impact on students.
OKCPS requires all volunteers to renew their volunteer application and complete a background check each year, in compliance with the OKCPS Board of Education Volunteer Services Policy and OKCPS Board of Education Volunteer Services Regulations.
OKCPS students will return to school August 13, and we look forward to connecting with both new and returning volunteers, as well as parents who have an interest in volunteering. Volunteer opportunities include:
-
Reading Buddies, which helps to improve the reading skills of OKCPS students and encourages a love of reading
-
Mentoring
-
Teacher assistance
-
Beautification
-
After school and athletic opportunities
-
Writing encouraging notes to students taking state standardized tests
-
Field Day/Super Kids Day activities
“Volunteers are integral to our mission of delivering an excellent and equitable education for all students. We are thrilled to welcome our dedicated volunteers back into our classrooms this August,” said Dr. Jamie C. Polk, Superintendent of OKCPS. “In the 2023-24 school year alone, over 14,000 volunteers contributed 27,440 hours to support our students. We are deeply grateful to those who have invested in our students, helping them enhance their math, English, and reading skills, and preparing them for life beyond the classroom.”
OKCPS has volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups, and encourages anyone interested to reach out to the Family and Community Engagement Department with questions at 405-587-0197 or volunteers@okcps.org.
