Tonight is the last of many graduation ceremonies for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) seniors. In the last week, OKCPS has celebrated more than 1,300 graduates from our eight traditional high schools and tonight, we will see students graduating from our three “alternative” high schools. OKCPS is unique in having these three high schools, Emerson North, Emerson South and Putnam Heights, which remove barriers and give high-risk students the opportunity to finish high school. Statistically, these students would not have been likely to finish high school if they had not had an alternative school to attend.
Graduation is a signature moment in many students’ lives, seemingly the point at which their dreams for adulthood become more real. OKCPS is excited for district graduates and their families and friends to be able to experience the pomp and circumstance, the excitement, the pride and the satisfaction of knowing they have succeeded in completing a test 13 years in the making.
Today was the last day of classes for all OKCPS students for the 2023-24 school year. The district encourages families to complete their returning students’ enrollment online and to look for upcoming information about summer enrollment pods on our website www.okcps.org/enroll.
