OKCPS Foundation Raises $115,000 for Coat-A-Kid

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 11, 2022) – Today, the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation partnered with Mach Resources to deliver hundreds of new warm, winter coats to Britton Elementary.

Each year, the Foundation’s Coat-A-Kid program provides thousands of brand new coats to OKCPS students in need across the district.

“Today’s event is especially exciting as we celebrate having reached our Coat-A-Kid fundraising goal for the year,” said Mary Mélon-Tully, president and CEO of the OKCPS Foundation. “Winters can be brutal in Oklahoma, and without the support of our generous partners, we know that thousands of OKCPS students would not have a coat to keep them warm on their way to and from school. Once again our community partners have stepped up donating $115,000, which allows us to provide 6,000 new winter coats for OKCPS students who need them most. We are deeply grateful for their continued support.”

As the metro’s largest school district, nearly 90 percent of Oklahoma City Public schools’ 34,000 students are living at or below the poverty line. This reality, along with the struggles of rising inflation, makes programs like Coat-A-Kid more important than ever.

“The work being done through the Coat-a-Kid initiative is just one example of how our community wraps their arms around OKCPS kids,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel. “We are grateful to the OKCPS Foundation for leading this program and helping ensure our students have new coats to endure the cold winter months."

Mach Resources, Dell Technologies, Lemon Family Foundation, Diamondback Energy, Boeing and the OKC Firefighters Local 157 are all returning donors who each contributed over $5,000, making them the largest donors to the campaign this year.

Through these donations and others, the Foundation’s Coat-A-Kid program is able to fulfill every order for students needing a coat this winter.

“Mach considers it a privilege to help ensure that every student in our city has a warm coat as we enter this season of cooler weather,” said Greg Dewey, Vice President of Administration for Mach Resources. “We are blessed to partner with the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation who is at the forefront of meeting the physical, emotional and educational needs of our students.”
