Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used in grades Pre-K through 12th in Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS). Beginning in the elementary grades, teachers will scaffold Canvas use so by the end of 4th grade students will be confident users of Canvas. As a result, students will be better prepared for Canvas use in middle school and beyond.
Why use Canvas in the classroom?
It is a one-stop-shop...think of it as “your website” or “hub.” You can post resources for students and families to prevent time spent wandering around the internet searching for information or activities.
Families will become familiar with Canvas as it is a consistent tool used in all grades in our district.
Teachers will be able to help students learn and grow by using technology for everyday application.
Routine practice of using Canvas empowers students to use Canvas independently. Students should be prepared to work remotely in Canvas at any time.
Scaffolding Canvas Use
Using the linked guidelines, each grade level will scaffold their Canvas use throughout the school year. There should be opportunities for synchronous and asynchronous activities in your classroom.
