Do I have to be sick to request a test?

Any OKCPS employee who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or has had a known exposure to a positive person can be tested. At this time, staff need to fit into one of those categories to be tested. If you are being tested due to an exposure, health officials recommend waiting 5 days after exposure before being tested.

Testing is voluntary. By offering free testing to our staff, OKCPS hopes to eliminate the barrier of access to testing.

What kind of test is this?

The tests being administered by OKCPS nurses are a rapid antigen test. The antigen test can diagnose current SARS-CoV-2 infection by detecting viral proteins.

    How is the test administered?

A special 6-inch cotton swab is inserted up each of your nostrils and moved around for about 15 seconds. It won’t hurt, but it might be uncomfortable. The swab with the material from inside your nose is then tested using an analyzer.

    Who will administer the test?

OKCPS school nurses will administer the test and have been trained by Total Wellness on performing the swab and using the analyzer.

    Is there any paperwork required?

Yes, employees and household members who are over the age of 18 are required to complete a consent form, which designates that test result information is provided to OKCPS, Total Wellness, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The consent form can be downloaded here. Employees are encouraged to print and fill out the form before arriving for testing. However, testing sites will have forms available for those who need it. Employees are also encouraged to bring their OKCPS-issued employee photo ID.

How soon will I get the results?

Test results are available in 15-20 minutes and will be shared with the employee in writing before they leave the testing site.

What if my test is negative, but I have symptoms?

Please stay home and monitor your symptoms.  Close contacts should wait 5 days from contact with a positive person to be tested. Employees who have symptoms and/or believe they have been exposed but have negative results to a rapid test should seek a PCR test through your healthcare provider or  a state or county testing facility. Local testing availability can be found here https://www.testokc.com/

What if my test is positive?

Stay home and immediately report your test results to OKCPS (see the next question for how to report). Additionally, as a matter of public health, your positive test result will be shared with the District COVID-19 team as well as requisite health departments.

How do I report a positive COVID-19 Test Result?

OKCPS employees who work at a school building (with the exception of SNS staff and Guest Teachers) should report a positive COVID-19 test or exposure to their principal and/or your school’s contact tracer.

OKCPS employees who work at the Clara Luper Center for Educational Services, the Operations Center, Student Support Services at Westwood should report a positive COVID-19 test or exposure by calling the district’s COVID-19 line, (405) 587-CV19. Guest Teachers and SNS staff members should also use the CV19 line to report a positive COVID-19 test or exposure.
