ACTIVITY: ACT Academy
Practice is the best of all instructors.
ACT Academy is the go-to place to get personalized practice. We want you to be able to get the best resources, no matter what subject or publisher. One publisher might cover math really well, while another is better at teaching science.
More than videos
It's important that concepts are presented to you in a variety of ways, not just one type of video. Today you might listen to a rap song, tomorrow you might be using a simulation on the same topic!

ACTIVITY: This is Not a Small Voice
Sonia Sanchez is an award-winning poet who has authored over a dozen books of poetry, as well as short stories, essays, plays, and children’s books. In this poem, a speaker asserts the strength and love of a collective set of people. As you read, take notes on the imagery that the author uses to describe voice and love.
Questions to consider:
Why do you think it’s important for the speaker to assert that her voice and feelings are not small? Does the author hint at either being oppressed or denied in the text?
- Watch April Wells share “This is Not a Small Voice” and her response to the poem. How does hearing her voice change your perception of the poem? What did you think about her response? How did it make you feel?
- If you could write a response to April Wells, what would you say?
- Take a few minutes to write your thoughts. Then, give your thoughts power by speaking them aloud.
