August 2, 2021 | Message from McDaniel - Health & Safety for OKCPS

Team OKCPS,

It is unfortunate that the topic of face masks and vaccination, which both protect us from COVID-19, has become a political discussion. This is not a political issue. This is a public health emergency.

Science tells us that the two most important preventative measures we can take to protect our students and staff from contracting this potentially deadly virus are vaccination and universal masking. While each of us has a choice about getting vaccinated and wearing a mask, I am asking our OKC community to support our efforts in protecting the students and staff of OKCPS.

With cases on the rise and the unknowns from the Delta variant, I am encouraging each of you to consider the ways you can personally contribute to keeping our schools safe. With the goal of keeping our students in classrooms, I have chosen to be vaccinated and starting today, I will once again wear a mask when I am indoors and unable to properly social distance.

We have a responsibility to take care of the children in this community; they are the future. We must protect them to the best of our ability, but we can’t do it alone. Team OKCPS and our community must work together to take care of one another. Please get vaccinated if you are eligible and wear a mask; those two actions can and will save lives.

Dr. Sean McDaniel
OKCPS Superintendent
