FAQ's

    • My child had a cell phone confiscated, when will it be returned?
      • Parents may pick up the cell phones on Mondays between 3 and 4 pm.
    • Where can I go for advice for raising teens?
    • Why can't I pick up my child the last few minutes of the day?
      • During the last 5-10 minutes of class, your child is getting their homework and gathering their supplies, it is important for your student to finish out the day.
    • What do I do if I am concerned about my child's behaviour?
      • If you are concerned about certain events or habits your child has picked up recently, consider going to Parent Academy, Parent Night, or any number of family oriented programs our school offers. You are also welcome to speak with our counseling and administrative staff to see if they see the same things at school that you see at home. If you are concerned that your child might be depressed or suicidal, please seek immediate medical attention, it is better to overreact than to underreact in these cases.
    • My child has missed a lot of days so what should I do?
      • If your child has been out for medical reasons for an extended period, please provide a medical note. If they have been on suspension make sure you pick up work from the office. If you are concerned, please call and speak with our Attendance Advocate.
    • My child does not get along well with teachers or students at this school, what can I do?
      • Try sitting down with the counselor to see what options you have as far as switching classes. If that is not a possible solution, you may want to request a special transfer to another school or try our new computer based learning program.
    • I need help with school supplies, what can I do?
      • Contact your child's school for information about how to get school supplies or contact our district offices at 587-0000.
    • My child did not come home on the bus, when should I worry?
      • First call the school to see if the bus is running late. Keep a list of all your child's activities in case there is a suprise meeting, the office staff will know which teachers to ask. Know your child's friends and their phone numbers, teens are not known for checking in consistently when they go to a friend's house. If they are not found within an hour, it may be time to contact authorities.
    • What do I need to do if my child is sick?
      • Please call the school to let us know your child is ill. If at all possible please provide a doctor's note. The phones are usually very busy in the early mornings, you may want to try calling after school has been in session for an hour. Doctor's notes can be brought to the office by your child when they return to school.
    • My child is failing a class, what now?
      • First set up a parent teacher conference with all your child's teachers. See if it is just missing work or if there might be another reason for low grades. See if the teacher offers tutoring before or after school or check with the school office to get information about tutoring programs. Try setting up a homework routine with your child, ask questions about what they are learning, and make sure your child reads every night. Consider buying some practice books at bookstores like Half-Price Books or Mardels, ask a clerk for educational materials.
