On behalf of the entire staff at Westwood Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our web site! Please check back often to find out about school and community events.

Great Expectations is the collaboratively developed theme that runs through Westwood Elementary and our instructional focus.  Great Expectations focuses on developing high expectations, a climate of mutual respect, building self esteem, and responsibility as integrated throughout the curriculum.

Students from all walks of life add to the richness and diversity of Westwood’s population.  Serving the community for many years near the stockyards, Westwood is viewed as the core of the neighborhood and represents more than just a local elementary school.

High expectations and focus on learning and making certain that every child meets or exceeds Oklahoma’s grade level performance standards are the school’s hallmarks of learning.

The Westwood teaching staff delivers instruction to high-achieving students using differentiated instructional strategies, including acceleration, depth and complexity.  The development of scholarly attributes are defined and encouraged among all learners.

Students who are in need of additional support are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of intervention programs.  Westwood offers assistance to at-risk students throughout the school day and after school in our Whiz Kids program. Additionally, every Westwood teacher has been trained to provide intervention support in class for struggling students.

Technology is thoroughly integrated throughout the curriculum.  Westwood Elementary is very proud of the fact each classroom has a smartboard to support instruction! The computer lab is complete with computers and a projector to assist with instruction.

Finally, the Westwood learning community is committed to providing students with a solid academic foundation.  Working as a Professional Learning Community, or PLC, the staff understands the importance of reviewing student work samples and assessment data both within and across grade levels. By working as a team, Westwood has built a strong, cohesive instructional program. The school community recognizes the importance of establishing and maintaining a strong partnership between home and school.  It is with commitment and pride that the entire Westwood school community joins hands to make certain that children reach their academic potential.

Again, we are pleased that you have logged on to our web site. Please book mark our address for future visits. We look forward to your participation and involvement in our school

Sincerely,

Susan Robertson
