Message from McDaniel: Update to Conversations Around School Start Times
OKCPS Students, Families, & Staff -
As you know, OKCPS has been exploring a change to our school start times. Although the research is very strong, I have said from the beginning that it is important to me that a shift this significant will be a fit for OKCPS.
In the past few weeks, after gathering input from a variety of stakeholders and continuing our own internal discussions, it has become clear that our district leaders still need more time to properly plan for and implement a new district schedule. Among many other logistics that must be worked through, I've asked my team to place a special focus on creating a more robust before/after school programming in order to help support our families who will be impacted by this shift. I look forward to seeing the result of that work.
That said, I've decided to table this topic for now, which means OKCPS will not consider a change to our start times for Fall 2020. However, it is something we'll continue to explore and may reconsider in the future.
Many thanks to those who reached out and provided input, and I continue to send my deepest appreciation to our entire community for your continued patience. In return, I will remain committed to full transparency as we move forward and look forward to providing you with additional updates as needed.
