PTAs are devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools.
PTA Mission
- Supporting and speaking on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before agencies and organizations that make decisions affecting children.
- Assisting parents in developing skills they need to raise and protect their children
- Encouraging parent and public involvement in the public schools
Start a PTA
Step 1
Talk to the principal and/or parent liaison. It's important to work with school staff so they can assist with communication to all parents.
Step 2
Recruit interested parents, community members, and school staff and teachers. You need at least 10 members to start a PTA.

Step 4
The Oklahoma State PTA office will set up an initial meeting and explain the process and benefits of joining the PTA family.
The state PTA and OKC PTA Council can assist with:
- Creating bylaws that meet state and federal requirements
- Identify and elect officers
- Recruitment ideas and campaigns
- Applying for EIN (Employer Identification Number)
