September 16, 2022 | OKCPS Partners with OCCHD and OUHSC for Study About Needs of Teen Parents
OKCPS Families,
We are proud to announce that Oklahoma City Public Schools has partnered with Oklahoma City-County Health Department, Variety Care, and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) to participate in a study to assess the needs of students who are pregnant and parenting.
We are hoping to learn more about the experiences of adolescents who are attending high school while pregnant or caring for children. We will be asking participants about their educational and personal goals, worries related to pregnancy and parenting, social support, resources and services they use or would like to use, and other general information about their experiences as pregnant and parenting students.
Details About the Study
The study includes an online survey, open to all students who are:
-
Currently pregnant or have given birth in the past year,
-
Between the ages of 14 and 19 years old, and
-
Currently attending an OKCPS high school.
Students who meet these criteria and complete the online survey will be compensated with a $50 electronic gift card.
Additionally, focus groups and interviews will be conducted with students who meet the same criteria, have completed the online survey, and attend U.S. Grant, Northwest Classen, or Capitol Hill High School. Eligible students who wish to participate in the focus groups will be given an excused absence for any class time they miss and provided a catered lunch. Students who participate in the focus groups will also be given an additional gift card and an assortment of baby items at the end of the discussion as a thank-you for their time.
If unable to participate in a scheduled focus group, eligible participants may elect to participate in a one-on-one phone interview with a member from the research team, for which they will also receive a gift card and assortment of baby items.
Participant and Parent/Guardian Rights
Participation in the study is completely voluntary. Students and their parents/guardians have the right to decline to participate. Students may also stop participating and withdraw their consent at any time.
