Pre-Registration for Pre-K and New to OKCPS Kindergarten Now Open
April 5, 2021
(Oklahoma City, OK) Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is opening pre-enrollment for pre-kindergarten (pre-K) and new-to-OKCPS kindergarten students beginning today through April 16. Families of children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021 simply need to fill out and submit an online form to complete their child’s pre-enrollment.
“We are proud to offer a high-quality pre-K program with dedicated teachers and community partners who help shape our youngest learners. Pre-K is the foundation upon which each child learns to develop the skills necessary to be a successful life-long learner,” said Dr. Stephanie Hinton, OKCPS director of early childhood. “We offer free, full-day pre-K and kindergarten programs at each of our elementary schools to ensure that there is a seat for every 4- and 5-year-old in our district.
Pre-K has many benefits, but one of the most important is that kindergarten students who have attended pre-K tend to do better on assessments required by the Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA). If a child is living in a child care desert or does not have access to a quality pre-K program, they are often considered ‘behind’ by the screener before they begin kindergarten. By offering all-day pre-K at all OKCPS elementary schools, we are filling the gap and making sure our youngest learners have equal opportunities to start their education off on the right foot.”
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
- Children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021, may enroll in the pre-K program. Tuition is free for the 4-year-old program.
- Children who are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021, and who are new to OKCPS may enroll in the free kindergarten program.
This process is only pre-enrollment for our pre-K and kindergarten programs. Pre-enrollment allows the district to plan appropriately for the upcoming school year. Families will be asked to provide the documentation listed below for full enrollment at a later date, but prior to school starting.
FAMILIES MUST PROVIDE: Age verification, immunization records, proof of address, telephone number, and emergency and work telephone numbers.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS: Immunization records must clearly indicate which immunizations the child has been given, dates administered and signatures or stamp of physician or agency giving immunization. The following immunizations are required:
