OKCPS Families & Community,
OKCPS has been working with the Oklahoma City Police Department who is aware of and taking appropriate measures to address social media threats against several schools. OCPD has been clear that there is no evidence whatsoever of an imminent or credible threat to any OKCPS school, student or staff member at this time. However, we will continue to investigate any and all threats made against the District.
It is unfortunate that rumors continue to circulate, causing fear and unnecessary interruptions to student learning. We are urging families to please take time to talk with your students about social media safety. It is important to note that a threat to cause harm on social media is a FELONY crime.
We know that tensions are high after our nation experienced yet another school shooting tragedy, but making a comment or post on social media of a threatening nature IS NOT a joke. Our students need to know the severity of this type of action.
We also want to remind you that if you witness any suspicious person or behavior, it should be reported immediately by calling 587-SAFE, calling 911 or using our online TIPS reporting system.
If we commit to work together and remain vigilant, we can help to protect the safety of our students and staff in our schools.
