5/20/2021 Notice to Families | OKCPS Issued Devices - What to do over the summer!
In order to provide your child with access to exciting summer learning opportunities, OKCPS students can use their district-issued device (chromebook or iPad and WiFi hotspot) over the summer. Students will use those same devices during the 2021-2022 school year. If your student is going into the 3rd, 5th, or 9th grades next year, they will turn in their current device at the start of school in August, and will be issued a new device (exceptions apply for Spencer ES).
If your student is moving out of district, or if your student no longer needs their hotspot, please return devices (chromebooks, iPads, WiFi hotspots -- including the charging cables) to your school during the final week of instruction, Monday, May 24th - Wednesday, May 26th. If you leave the district and your student’s devices are not returned, you will owe OKCPS the cost of the missing devices.
Replacement charges for a missing, damaged, or lost device are:
Chromebook - $317.00
Chromebook Case - $19.00
Chromebook Power adaptor - $40.00
iPad - $397.00
iPad Power adaptor - $49.00
WiFi Hotspot - $84.00
If you cannot return your device during the last week of school, contact your child’s school or you may turn it in at the IT Help Desk (OKCPS Operations Center, 2734 Miramar Blvd, Bldg 3, Room 22) during normal business hours (7:30am-4:30pm) at any time over the summer.
If at any time, the Chromebook, iPad, or WiFi hotspot are stolen, please call the OKC Police Department (405-297-1112) and file a theft report. The district will need a copy of the police theft report to issue a replacement device and clear your responsibility to pay to replace the device. If you have lost any of the devices and cannot afford the replacement cost, OKCPS will work with you. In either case, please call the IT Help Desk (405-587-HELP) if your device has been stolen or lost so it can be remotely disabled.
To avoid damage or theft of a device, the following precautions should be taken:
Devices should not be left unattended.
The iPad cover should stay on the device at all times.
Chromebook covers should be used when the device is not in use.
Charging cables should be stored with the device.
Do NOT apply pressure to the screen. It will break.
Students should not be allowed to eat or drink while using the device.
Wash and dry your hands before using the device, especially after eating, drinking, or using the restroom.
The device should not be left in the car.
Devices should not be left on the floor.
Do not lay or stack items on top of the device.
Be cautious when sending the device to daycare, family, friends or non-custodial parents.
Do not take the device on vacation. Chromebooks and iPads only work with a functioning WiFi connection, and WiFi hotspots will not work outside of the continental US.
If your student has issues with their device over the summer, please call the IT Help Desk at 405-587-HELP or visit us at the OKCPS Operations Center, 2734 Miramar Blvd, Bldg 3, Room 22 for support. The IT Help Desk will be open all summer from 7:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Spanish language translation services are available.
