OKCPS Hosts Breakfast for Oklahoma Lawmakers

This morning, OKCPS hosted our annual Legislative Breakfast, sponsored by the OKCPS Foundation and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. At the breakfast, Oklahoma lawmakers were asked to join district staff and students to learn more about OKCPS and the work being done by the district.

Lawmakers were invited to engage with board members, district leaders, our 2022 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Kim Banz and her fellow teacher of the year finalists as well as student leaders from Star Spencer Mid-High School.

“I would like to personally thank the legislators who represent our community for their commitment to education,” said Dr. Sean McDaniel, OKCPS Superintendent. “It is important to have open, transparent conversations with our elected leaders to ensure that education in our state is a top priority. Our kids count on us, both school district and government leaders, to work together to ensure all students in Oklahoma have equitable access to the best educational experience possible.”

In addition to an overview of the district, Dr. McDaniel shared updates regarding our plans to further address workforce development, while acknowledging several of our programs and partnerships. A few notable celebrations include the recent launch of Scissortail Studios, a film production track for students at three high schools; our partnership with OU Health and OU Children’s to provide telehealth to families in the Douglass High School feeder pattern; and our focus on literacy through our partnerships with the MetroLibrary System, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Raising a Reader and the OKC Compact’s ReadOKC.

Lastly, once again, OKCPS celebrated the passage of our 955 million dollar bond package and Superintendent McDaniel shared with our lawmakers our plans for capital improvements as well as how a healthy bond program brings opportunities to kids.
