2022 Oklahoma Council for Indian Education Teacher of the Year
Miss Cholakocee Werito was named the 2022 Oklahoma Council for Indian Education Teacher of the Year!
Cho received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education at Oklahoma State University. Miss Werito is currently working on her Master of Arts in Social Foundations of Education at Oklahoma State University. Her research interests include Native American representation in early childhood literacy, professional development, and early childhood advocacy in education.
Miss Werito currently works for the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a Kindergarten teacher at Eugene Field Elementary. She has been an early childhood educator for twelve years serving two elementary schools in OKCPS. She currently serves as the OKCPS Native American Student Services Teacher Representative.
Miss Werito serves on the Indigenous Educators organization team, along with other Indigenous educators across the country. She also serves on the board of directors for Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc., the first Native American sorority, as the Grand Dean of Honeycombs. Miss Werito's hobbies include beading, sewing, metalsmithing, and traveling. She also has a love of books and enjoys reading Native American children's and young adult literature. Additionally, Miss Werito enjoys volunteering as a Girls on the Run coach,a member of the Remember the Run registration team, and at many Native American Student Services events including their annual Powwow.
