OKCPS Hiring Nurses and Offering Recruitment Bonus

 

OKCPS IS HIRING SCHOOL NURSES AND OFFERING A RECRUITMENT BONUS 

(Oklahoma City, OK) - OKCPS is excited to announce a one-time recruitment stipend of $2,500 to Registered Nurses (RNs) or $1,500 to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who accept a full-time position in the District as a school nurse. 

In 2019, Pathway to Greatness supported the value and importance of access to a school nurse for every student, ultimately creating at least one nurse position for each of our 62 schools. Today, OKCPS employs 38 RNs and 16 LPNs, and we are looking to fill several school nurse positions for the current school year as well as for the 2021-22 school year. 

These roles are critical in the daily operations of a school, especially now, in the time of COVID-19. The school nurse is responsible for strengthening and facilitating the educational process by promoting, improving, and maintaining the health status of students. School nurses also serve as a resource in matters of health education, health promotion and function as an integral part of the school staff. 

Our school nurses provide essential services like health screening programs and daily medication management for students. Nurses also provide guidance, counseling, or follow-up as needed by referring students and/or their families to appropriate health care agencies for services.

“In some cases, our school nurses are the only health care provider our students see regularly. The relationships they build with students and their families are a vital component in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for our students,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel.

Salary and benefits include:

  • Average annual salary for an RN is $51,391
  • Average annual salary for an LPN is $32,376
  • School nurses follow the same schedule as our teachers - which means a 181 work day contract with summers and other paid holidays off
  • Regular hours are Monday - Friday, 7.5 hour days (no evenings or weekends!)
  • Equalized pay - there are 24 pay periods in a contract year, so employees receive a paycheck even during summer break
