December 6, 2021 - Changes to Spring 2022 Asynchronous Learning Days
OKCPS Families & Staff,
Tonight, the Board of Education approved recommended changes to the 2021-2022 Calendar.
You will remember that back in July of this year, OKCPS added 7 asynchronous learning days to this year’s school calendar in order to provide teachers with professional development days while also allowing students to practice their virtual learning skills.
Unfortunately, student attendance was extremely low on our first two asynchronous learning days. Additionally, I received feedback from my Teacher Advisory Committee that many of our educators wanted and needed more time with students in class when possible. Our teachers also asked for additional time to work in their classrooms, look at student data and to prepare lessons with their grade level or subject area teammates.
With these things in mind, our Board has agreed to make changes to the calendar dates below, which were originally scheduled as asynchronous days.
- December 6, 2021 - No School for Students | Work Day for Teachers
- January 31, 2022 - Regular Instructional Day
- February 21, 2022 - No School for Students | Professional Development Day for Teachers
- March 21, 2022 - No School for Students | ½ Professional Development and ½ Work Day for Teachers
- April 4, 2022 - Regular instructional Day
Please note, this shift will not lengthen the 2021-2022 school year or require additional instructional days be added to the calendar during the spring semester. The updated 2021-22 school calendar can be downloaded by visiting www.okcps.org/calendar.
This evening, our Board of Education also voted to approve the calendars for the upcoming 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. Those calendars can be found by visiting www.okcps.org/calendar.
We know making changes to the school calendar mid-year may cause some scheduling challenges for our families. However, the feedback we received from our teachers and from the data we collected told us we needed to make a shift to better serve our students and our staff.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and continued support of OKCPS.
