February 26, 2024 |Message from McDaniel: Leaving OKCPS

OKCPS Families,

I wanted to personally share some important news with you. I have submitted my resignation to our Board of Education effective June 30, 2024.

I want to emphasize that this decision was not made lightly and was a difficult one. Unfortunately, there are fundamental differences in perspectives between a particular member of the Board and myself. After careful consideration, I firmly believe that resigning as Superintendent is the right decision for both myself and the district.

Since joining OKCPS in July 2018, we’ve accomplished a lot together for our students and families. Our district was redesigned through the Pathway to Greatness, which allowed us to align resources to best benefit students. Through a partnership with the OKCPS Foundation we’ve been able to build a teacher and leader pipeline to ensure we have a pathway to prepare the next generation of teachers and leaders. The thing that I am most proud of is the planning, work and the ultimate approval of the district’s largest bond package. Our community voted to support a $955 million bond package that will undoubtedly change the lives of our students.

It has been a great honor to serve this district for the past six years. I want the OKCPS community, our teachers, staff and students to know I appreciate you. Together we have made important and long-term changes. I will always be an advocate for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

Take care,

Dr. Sean McDaniel, Superintendent
