October 11, 2024 | Celebrating First Nine Weeks & Enjoy Fall Break

Dear OKCPS Families and Staff,

As we wrap up the first nine weeks of school and prepare for Fall Break, I want to express my deep appreciation for your hard work and dedication. Thanks to each of you, we’ve had a strong start to the year, setting the stage for continued success.

It’s been a busy few months!

Our student athletics and performing arts programs are off and running, including the launch of unified sports for the Special Olympics. We were thrilled to connect with over 80% of our families during recent Parent-Teacher Conferences in September, and OKCPS students and staff enjoyed celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with over a dozen schools participating in the Fiestas de las Américas Parade. Just this morning, we cut the ribbon on a new soccer field at Cesar Chavez Elementary thanks to the investment made by our community through the 2022 School Bond!

I have also enjoyed getting out into the community over the last few weeks to meet with many of our local leaders and community partners to share OKCPS goals and Key Progress Indicators (KPIs) as we continue to narrow our focus in order to improve student outcomes.

I encourage all of our district stakeholders to participate in one of the upcoming “Voices for the Future” Listening Sessions so the OKCPS Board of Education can hear directly from our families, staff, and community members as we envision the future of our students. The feedback we gather will guide our district's plan for the next five years, ensuring that OKCPS reflects the values and priorities of the entire community.

While there are many wonderful things happening across our district, I hope you will use this break as a time to rest, recharge, and reflect. Please take care of yourselves and enjoy time with family and friends, or doing whatever it is that brings you joy. When we return on Monday, October 21st, we’ll be heading into a busy fall season, but our focus will remain the same: providing equitable access to a world-class education for every student, so they graduate ready to fulfill their unique purpose in a healthy, vibrant community.

Let’s come back ready to continue the important work we’ve begun. Thank you for all you do, and enjoy your well-deserved break.

Take care,

Dr. Jamie C. Polk
Superintendent
