December 20, 2024 | Update on OSDE’s Proposed Administrative Rules re: Proof of Citizenship
Dear OKCPS Families and Staff,
As we continue to face complex issues affecting our families and community, I want to take a moment to share a few words of reassurance.
OKCPS leaders are aware of OSDE’s proposed administrative rules regarding proof of citizenship during the enrollment process. It is important to note that the review and approval of proposed agency rules is a lengthy, multi-step process, and the District will continue to closely monitor developments in the days ahead. In the meantime, OKCPS will follow law and board policy.
Federal law guarantees every child's right to public education regardless of immigration status, and our District will continue operating in accordance with these established federal protections. OKCPS does not, nor do we have plans to, collect the immigration status of our students or their families.
OKCPS schools are a safe and welcoming place for ALL students, and our mission remains unchanged. We are committed to providing equitable access to a world class education for every student in our district.
Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in OKCPS.
Take care,
Dr. Jamie C. Polk
Superintendent
