Foster Care Education

  • "Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), now contains key protections for children in foster care that require State and local educational agencies (SEAs and LEAs) to collaborate with child welfare agencies to ensure the educational stability of children in foster care."  -U.S. Dept. of Education

    Important Notes:

    • Foster placements please note on the form if the child is in foster care. OKCPS staff, it is imperative that foster placements are educated on filling out these forms properly, and not just marking themselves as “guardian”, but to physically put that the child is in foster care, so they are not missed when flagging.
    • If a child is enrolled in a tribe it needs to be documented on the information sheet.
    • Please send forms ASAP when a child is enrolled or removed from the school who is in foster care, OR if a child comes into or leaves DHS custody.
