Message from Superintendent Aurora Lora
Due to continued budget challenges and low enrollment, the Oklahoma City Public School District (OKCPS) is recommending the consolidation of several schools across the district, potentially impacting Edgemere Elementary, FD Moon Academy, Gatewood Elementary, Green Pastures Elementary, and Johnson Elementary. We also plan to transition Northeast Academy into a neighborhood middle school, which will serve the Douglass feeder pattern.
District leaders will present a draft OKCPS School Consolidation Plan to the Board of Education for consideration. Then, over the next few weeks, we will hold informational meetings across the district to allow community members the opportunity to better understand what led to these recommendations and provide their feedback. The Board will then vote on a final plan in early April.
Although change is difficult, I am confident this School Consolidation Plan will allow our students to have access to additional educational resources and will create permanent cost-savings for the district, which is a necessity during these tough budget times.
OKCPS remains committed to providing the best possible education for every child. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
