Bullying is intentional, repeated hurtful acts, where an imbalance of power is present. The bully has something to gain - power, material items, or popularity. Bullying may be words or other behavior such as name-calling, threatening, and/or shunning, starting rumors, and maybe committed by one or more students against another. It may be physical, verbal, emotional, social, sexual, or electronic communications.
Conflict occurs between students with equal power. It happens occasionally, maybe accidental, is not serious, results in emotional reaction, students are not seeking power or attention, they are not trying to get something, they usually show remorse, take responsibility, and make an effort to resolve the issue.
