Overview United States History focuses on the written record of human experience, revealing how individuals and societies resolved their problems and disclosing the consequences of their choices. By studying the choices and the decisions of the past, stude3nts can confront today’s problems and choices with a deeper awareness of their alternatives and the likely consequences.

                       

I. Each nine weeks students will be responsible for the following:

    A. Define all terms and maintain a vocabulary folder

    B. Write an Outline of the Sections assigned weekly

    C. Chapter and section quizzes

    D. Write a brief paper on the contributions of the assigned Presidents and/or subject     

          areas assigned.

    E. A Poster project graphing the major ideas of the period and/or timeline.

II. During the First Nine weeks we will cover the following:

Planning times: Last Period of the Day 1:15-2:10

Overview: Oklahoma History focuses on the written record of human experience, revealing how individuals and societies resolved their problems and disclosing the consequences of their choices. We will examine the geography of the state as we demonstrate the process skills and examine a wide variety of influences upon Oklahoma History toward its full development.

 

I.                     Each nine weeks students will be responsible for the following:

A.     Students will do map projects each 9 weeks, worth 25%

B.     Students will keep a journal on Oklahoma, worth 10%

C.    Students will do daily work assigned, worth 15%

D.    Students will do assigned readings and write a report on each, worth 25%

E.     Students will be tested over text work and maps, worth 25%

 

II.                   During the first Nine Weeks we will cover the following:

A.     Students will do 2 map projects each 9 weeks(4 in all).  Due Dates 9/17;10/15:11/19;12/17.

B.     Students will keep a written journal on Oklahoma over assigned Units presented. Due Weekly

C.    Students will do daily work assigned over Units presented.

D.    Students will do assigned readings to include:

1)     Unit I and “Oklahoma’s Climate and Geography” pp262-67; “Indigenous Tribes” pp268-73; “Blending Cultures” pp273-76;

2)      Unit II and “The Cherokee Almanac” pp276-78; “Sequoyah and Stand Watie” pp278-85; “The Trial of Tears” pp285-99; “Missionaries in Indian Country” pp300-01; “Men of Peace on the Southern Plains” pp301-09.

3)     Unit III and “The Cowboy: The Great American Myth” pp310-17; “Early Settlers and the Run of 1889” pp317-24; “Outlaws and Lawmen” pp324-29.

                    E. Students will use the assigned readings to write a   

                         report on each.

  F. Students will review and take both quizzes and Unit

       test.

 

III.                  During the Second Nine Week period we cover the following:

E.     Students will use the assigned readings to write a report on each.

GEOGRAPY

Planning Times:  Last Period daily

Class overview: This class will deal with asking questions, solving problems as we study the earth’s surface and the processes that shape it, the relationships between people and environments, and the connections between people and places.  We will answer questions about where things are, how they got there, and how they interact with other things.

                            

I. Each nine weeks students will be responsible for the following:

    A. Use basic geographic tools, do assigned activity sheets,

         vocabulary

         Chapter assessments  25% of grade.

B.     Take and  pass Chapter Quiz and Test 25% of grade

C.    Read and Write about Geography 20% of grade

D.    Projects and Map folder  20% of grade

E.     Group Project 10% of grade

II. First Nine weeks we will cover Chapters 1-10 and the standards        

    Are:

A.     Use and create maps of locales, regions and the world from a spatial perspective.

Chapter 1 and 2.

B.     Analyze the physical and human landscapes of the world using various geographic representations, including maps, globes, photo’s and pictures Chapter 1& 2.

C.    Analyze how selected physical, human, and environmental processes shape the biosphere Chapters 3 & 4.

D.    Locate on appropriate maps the major cultural and physical regions of the world to be covers in Chapters 5, 6, 7 & 8,9,10.

E.     Observe and predict the possible economic effects and environmental changes resulting from natural phenomena in Chapters 5, 6, 7 & 8, 9, 10.

III. Second Nine weeks we will cover:

  1. Physical and Cultural Geography of North Africa and the Middle East pp. 348-407 and give a report/poster project on selected country in the Middle East.
  2. Physical and Cultural Geography of  South Asia pp470-523 creating from one country in the region graphs-tables on the cultural geography of the region providing maps, a country profile with flow charts of the aft of climate, settlement patterns and land use in the region, selecting one major city to discuss average climate patterns compared with one U.S. City. Create a travel itinerary for one country which you would like to visit and showing proposed routes of travel and cost.
  3. Physical and Cultural Geography of  East Asia pp528-587 WRITE A PAPER COMPARING AND CONTRASTING leading economic sectors, exports and imports, and trading patterns(10%)
  4. Physical and Cultural Geography of Southeast Asia pp 588-645 to include a thumbnail sketch of the country chosen for a classroom presentation (5%)

IV. Bonus WORK may include employing the FIVE GEOGRAPHIC THEMES to write a paper on one country from each of the following regions: Europe, Africa south of the Sahara, Australia and Oceania.
