Dear Parents,

I am excited to be your student’s Math teacher for the year 2008 – 2009. Classen is committed to a strong focus on academics and I an honored to be a part of that effort. As an educator, I strongly believe in the cooperation of home and school. I will do my best to keep you informed and please feel free to stop by, call, email, or schedule and conference at any time.

It is important that you understand what I expect from your student both in and out of my classroom. I will be going over my rules and expectations with your student this week. My main objective is that each student strives for excellence and expands their knowledge of Mathematics as much as they can during the course of this year. I expect excellent behavior and high quality work out of each and every student.

Homework is a very important part of a Math class. Just as an instrument cannot be played well without practice, one will not develop strong math skills without practice. If your student tells you for several days that there is no homework, something is wrong. Please call or email me. I will be requiring students to take notes in class and keep them in a bonder. The notebook should also contain warm-ups, homework, tests and quizzes. Asking to see their Math notebook from time to time is a good way to see what they are doing in class. My webpage www.okcps.org/teacher/cjbrown has additional information for you. The current assignments are also posted there.

I will be going over all the rules and procedures that are posted in the room and the expectations that are outlined in the syllabus with the students. The student should have a copy of these to read, along with this letter. I am asking that the student return the bottom portion of this letter to me for their first grade of the quarter. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. Thank you for your all your support and help throughout this school year.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                                Christy Brown

Please detach and return
