In November 2001, Oklahoma City voters approved a historic bond issue and tax initiative. The $512 million generated will provide for every OKCPS student to attend school in a brand new or newly renovated school. It also provides academic programs that will help us prepare students for the 21st century workplace.

After two school years in shared quarters with a nearby middle school, Star Spencer High School’s 530 students and staff returned home on August 30, 2004 as the proud occupants of the first renovation project to be completed under MAPS for Kids. - More Information

A groundbreaking ceremony signified the start of construction on the new U.S. Grant High School.  The new high school and new stadium will be constructed in two phases on the existing school site at 5016 South Pennsylvania. - More Information

Wheeler Community Learning Center commemorated the completion of phase I of the MAPS for Kids project with a ribbon cutting on Monday, September 27. - More Information

MAPS for Kids Funding

Sales Tax Proposition
• Jan. 1, 2002 through April 1, 2003 half-cent sales tax increase
• April 1, 2003 through Jan. 1, 2009 one-cent sales tax increase
• Seven total years of tax collection
• Estimated collection: $512 million
• Total collection to date: $29 million

Bond Proposition
• Total sale - $180 million
• Current sale - $82.7 million
• Four other sales scheduled for 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006

Funding Totals
• $692 million for overall MAPS for Kids project (sales tax and bond)
• $530 million for all projects in Oklahoma City Public School District

Allotted Funding
• $478 million is set aside for building construction and renovations.
• $52 million is allocated for computer technology.
• $9 million will replace an aging bus fleet.
• $153 million is designated for suburban school districts.
