"Congratulations are in order..."

Congratulations to Raymond Lane of Star Spencer.  Raymond is the state champion of Wrestling's Class 3A 189 lb. weight class.  His teammate, Marquise Satterwhite, took 2nd place in the 140 lb. weight class.  Star Spencer's team tied for 9th place overall. 

Northwest Classen's Mike Anderson captured 3rd place in the Class 4A 215 lb. weight class. 

Congratulations to these three student-athletes on their individual performance and to all wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament this year!

"Go Red!"

Congratulations to Ms. Tam Nguyen, Art Teacher at Linwood Elementary, for being named finalist in the Integris Heart Art and Photography Contest. The theme was “Go Red” for women's heart health and to promote loving your heart and keeping it healthy.   She was one of 30 finalists - her art will be exhibited at the OKC Art Museum during the month of February in the Education Hall.  All the art will be auctioned at a luncheon on May 4th to benefit the Integris Heart Hospital.

"Special Things are Happening"

Dr. Judy Jones was recently selected to be nationally recognized as the Oklahoma recipient of the John Vaughn Excellence in Education Award.  Every year the NCA Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement presents the John Vaughn Excellence in Education Award to recognize an individual who has done something “special” for children, demonstrating leadership in bringing about excellence in education.  She will be honored at the Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon, Monday, April 2, 2007.Congratulations, Dr. Jones!

"Oklahoma Coaches Association named Region 8 Athlete of the Year!"

Congratulations to John Marshall High School’s Oluwaseun Ojelade (OJ as he is affectionately called by the John Marshall Bear Family), who has been named the Oklahoma Coaches Association Region 8 Scholar Athlete of the Year. He will receive a $500 scholarship and will be nominated to receive the Oklahoma Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the year

"District Administrator to participate in The Broad Center Superintendents Academy"

We are extremely proud that our District has highly qualified administrators, and, Dr. Alan Ingram, Executive Director of Federal Programs, is proof of that! The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems announced on January 8th, 2007, that Dr. Ingram will attend The Broad Superintendents Academy, a 10-month executive management program to train top executives from military, business, non-profit, government and education backgrounds to lead urban public school districts. It is the only program in the country that recruits, and trains, leaders from industries other than education, to become superintendents. He is among 14 senior military officials, prominent education leaders and business executives selected to participate in the 2007 Broad Superintendents Academy. To date, 33 of the program’s graduates have served as superintendents, and, another 26 have held senior District executive positions. Congratulations Dr. Ingram!

"Mark another National Award for Linwood Elementary students"

Over 250 students participated from Linwood in the Radiant Peace Education Awards. Radiant Peace Place International has been sponsoring the Radiant Peace Education Awards since 1990.  Each year they recognize students, teachers and schools that create writing, art and projects that promote, encourage and inspire an awareness of Radiant Peace. The winners are on exhibit in the International Museum of Radiant Peace in St. Petersburg, Florida and on their website www.radiantpeace.org.  Congratulations to the Linwood National winners of a $75.00 cash award and a certificate, Bianca Moreno-4th grade, Yesenia Ramirez-4th grade and Dustin Miller-4th grade.  The following students received Honorable Mention for their work which includes a $30.00 cash award and certificate, Aaron Barbour-3rd grade, Deanna DeLeon-1st grade, Dana Garcia-2nd grade, Presley Palmer-KDG, Gustavo Ramirez-1st grade, Beronica Rico-3rd grade, Kassi Hoover-5th grade, Emilio Reyes-5th grade, Dashawn McDowell-3rd grade, Daniel Zavala-3rd grade, Mayra Arzaga-4th grade, Lorelei Luna-5th grade, and Kim Zajac-5th grade.  Special thanks to the hard work and inspiration of Art teacher, Ms. Tam Nguyen.
