City and School Leaders Take Bus Tour of the New
Douglass High School
Oklahoma City – Just eight days before classes begin at
the brand new Douglass High School at 900 North M.L. King
Avenue, leaders from throughout the city get a sneak peek at the
new facility.
Two school busses will transport dignitaries from the OKCPS
Administration Building at 900 N. Klein and from City Hall at
1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10. Bus riders will receive a
guided tour both inside and outside the school hosted by the
school’s architects as well as Douglass High School principal,
Vallene Cooks.
“This is a very exciting time for not just the
school, but also the district and the city,” Cooks said.
The new Douglass High School is the first of three new high
schools to be built in Oklahoma City using money generated by
the MAPS for Kids plan that voters passed in 2001. The school
includes 50 classrooms, eight science labs, an auditorium and
two gymnasiums. Within two months, demolition will begin on the
old Douglass High School to make way for a new 6,000 seat
stadium and sports complex.
Media wishing to attend the bus tour are encouraged to ride the
bus from 900 N. Klein to the school. The bus will begin loading
at 1:00 p.m., and will return no later than 3:00 p.m. Media
wishing to cover only the tour inside the school are asked to be
at Douglass by 1:45 p.m. Please contact Cordell Jordan at
587-0232 for more information and to confirm a seat on the bus
tour.
