More Than Practice is Taking Classen School of Advanced
Studies Choir to Carnegie Hall
Oklahoma City – The old
joke about “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?... practice.”
certainly applies to the Classen School of Advanced Studies’
Madrigal Chorus which has been practicing daily for an upcoming
performance at the famed location on April 22. The group has
also been raising money every day as well.
“When we first learned our choir was accepted for
this performance, we were so excited,” says Director Becky
Lindley. “Only a handful of choirs from across the country are
chosen for these concerts each year, but we also knew the travel
would be expensive.”
Thanks to donations and fundraising efforts, the
choir earned more than $100,000, but was still short about
$6,000. That’s when officials at Chesapeake Energy stepped in.
Chesapeake is presenting a check for $6,000 to the choir in a
ceremony at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, April
13 at the school at 1901 N Ellison.
Thanks to this donation along with others, the
Madrigal Chorus will perform Mozart’s Missa Brevis and Te Deum
by Haydn at Carnegie Hall on April 22. The group is one of three
high schools chosen to perform these pieces under famed director
William C. Powell from Auburn University.
Media is invited to attend the check presentation
and speak to choir members about the upcoming performance. For
