Oklahoma Winds Propel OKCPS High
School Student to International Science Fair
David Quintana, a Southeast High School junior, has
worked tirelessly for three years and that hard work has
finally paid off. Quintana will be competing in the
International Science Fair in Phoenix, Arizona May 7 –
15.
Quintana’s project focuses on an alternate energy source
using a car alternator, battery and a windmill axle. The
project uses wind from the environment to turn the
alternator and charges the battery, producing an
alternate form of electricity.
“I have been working on the project for three years.
This year I've changed blade angles to compare the
difference between the angle and the energy output at a
constant wind speed of 15 mph,” said Quintana.
Throughout the years David’s project has won many
outstanding awards. He received 1st place in the
regional Science Fair competition and 2nd place in the
state level. Other awards that he has won from the past
year have been The Young Engineering Award, the U.S.
Army Award, and the 2004 Meteorological Award. He has
also won 3rd place state Oklahoma Junior Academy of
Science. |
