900 OKCPS Elementary Students Go Back to School Thursday

Oklahoma City – After seven weeks of summer break, students at three district elementary schools are back in class Thursday, July 21, 2005. Horace Mann Elementary,1105 NW 45 Street, Sequoyah, 2400 NW 36 Street and Westwood Elementary, 1701 Exchange Avenue are on a Continuous Learning calendar which means students have a three week break after each nine-week session and a shortened summer vacation.

“This allows students time to enjoy family but not forget about school procedures and focus on learning.” says DeAnn Davis, Executive director of Student Performance at Sequoyah. “The students come right in and pick up where we ended last school year.”

Sequoyah starts its fifth year under the Continuous Learning calendar and has proven success with an increase in state test scores each year, especially in math and reading. Sequoyah and Horace Mann Elementary welcome media to visit the schools for the start of classes.
