Proposed Changes to Attendance Boundary Lines Presented

Oklahoma City – At its regularly scheduled meeting on October 3, 2005, Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education was presented with proposed changes to the district’s attendance boundaries. The changes are necessary to accommodate the shifts in classrooms outlined under the newly approved and revised Program Implementation Plan (PIP) for the MAPS for Kids program.

The preliminary administrative recommendations are boundary line changes that will occur over the life of the MAPS for Kids plan as new schools are constructed and existing schools are renovated.  This includes a shift in the number of students expected to attend the new or renovated schools once the MAPS for Kids projects are complete. The recommendations also accommodate shifts in student populations in regards to the district’s changing grade configurations to grades pre-k through 6 at the district’s elementary schools, grades 7 through 12 at the north side high schools, and junior high (7 - 8) and high school (9 - 12) programs on the city’s south side.

These recommendations are the result of an extensive process that began with a demographic study this past January and concluded with the district, the OCMAPS Trust, and the city’s approval of the revised MAPS for Kids PIP plan in September.

The Oklahoma City School district will hold a series of public meetings for community input on the boundary line changes.
