Universal Dress Code

 

School uniforms contribute to the safe and orderly environment of Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School.  Students are expected to be in uniform each day.  Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School is in compliance with the OKC District Dress Code Guidelines as stated in the OKC School Student Handbook.  The following items are joined with that document.  Any student wearing improper apparel may be sent to the office.  In that event, the student will be asked to not wear the item again.  If necessary, students may borrow items from the “uniform closet” and/or call home for a change of clothing.   Violations of the uniform policy are also considered to be violations of the school’s Honor Code and Discipline Plan and students may receive discipline marks for these violations.  

 PURPOSE:     The purpose of the universal dress code is to provide guidelines to all Students and Parents concerning proper attire to be worn to eliminate distractions from the learning environment at Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School.

 SLACKS, SHORTS, SKORTS, SKIRTS AND JUMPERS:  Navy blue or khaki cotton twill.  No oversized clothing, visible logos, or any color of denim fabric.  Girls may not wear tight T-shirts that are unbuttoned and reveal undergarments.  No sagging pants or shorts are acceptable.  Capri pants, skorts and skirts are approved for girls only.  All shorts, skorts, skirts, jumpers and slits in long skirts and dresses must follow the Fingertip Rule:  Stand tall, hold arms hands down flat / straight at sides.  The clothing item or slit in skirts / skorts must be at least 1” longer than student’s fingertips.

 SHIRTS / BLOUSES:  No visible logos on shirts.  Shirts must be tucked in at ALL times.

1.      “Polo-style” knit white, navy, light blue or maroon. Long or short sleeved

            2.   Oxford Cloth – white or light blue, long or short sleeves.

            3.  Turtleneck / Mock – white, navy, light blue or maroon.  Long sleeves only.

            4.  Only white undershirts may be worn under polo’s or oxfords.

5.      Gym T-Shirts – only BIEMS gym T-Shirts are permitted during P.E.

6.      Blouse material should be such that it is not transparent or revealing.

7.      Girls must have their polo style shirts buttoned appropriately.

BELT:  Belts are optional.  If worn, only brown or black leather (plain or braided).  No cloth belts, canvas belts with logos on buckles or belts hanging 6 inches past the buckle are allowed.  No items attached to or hanging from belts or belt loops will be permitted. 

SHOES:  White; black, brown, or gray low top athletic shoes with minimal colored trim with non-marking soles   ALL SHOE STRINGS MUST BE WHITE, MATCH THE SHOE COLOR OR BE ORIGINAL TO THE SHOE ITSELF.  NO COLORED SHOELACES OF ANY KIND!  Brown or black leather shoes may also be worn with a plain matching shoelace.

SOCKS:  White, black, navy or brown socks required.  Navy tights are allowed with skirts and jumpers.

 SWEATERS:  Navy blue crew or “V” neck pullover or button-up cardigan.  No visible logos on sweaters will be permitted.

 SWEATSHIRTS:  Only BIEMS regulation sweatshirts and/or hoodies are permitted (available through the school).  A polo, oxford or turtleneck shirt must be worn underneath with the collar showing.  Sweatshirts that are not BIEMS must be removed during class unless it is extremely cold.

 COATS:  Coats and jackets must be removed when the student enters the classroom.  No professional team or logo jackets that represent any out-of-state university may be worn.  State logos are approved.

 ACCESSORIES:  No excessive jewelry or makeup.  No jewelry displayed by means of body piercing with the exception of girl’s ear lobes.  Earrings for male students are not allowed.

            Hair styles and color:  No unnatural colors permitted, i.e. blue, green, purple etc.  Bleaching / highlighting are approved.  Extreme hair styles are prohibited, i.e. Mohawks, Spikes, etc.

            Hats, bandanas and all headgear will be removed once the student enters the building and will remain off until dismissal time.  Special function use of headgear will be permitted.

On Fridays, students may wear any Belle Isle “club” or “spirit” T-shirt.  SHIRTS MUST BE TUCKED IN.

 Note to Parents - uniform items may be found at J.C. Penney, Academy, Old Navy, Target, Wal Mart, and Parker Uniform. Etc.  If you are unsure an item you have purchased is acceptable, do not remove the tags.  It is your responsibility to check with the staff to make sure the item is acceptable.

            School Administrators and Faculty will be responsible for enforcement of the policy.
