Welcome back to school my marvelous science students!

I hope your summer was fantastic and you are ready for a great final year at BIEMS. 

I am looking forward to being your teacher this year.  I think science is an amazing subject and hope you feel the same.  You will be busy conducting many interesting experiments and learning that science is everywhere. 

 

Text: 

You textbook is Glencoe Science Level Blue by McGraw Hill.  You will receive a book to keep at home for homework assignments.  We will have a classroom set of the text for you to use at school, so do not bring your textbook to school until it is time to check it back in at the end of the year.  

 

Please be respectful to these books.  The books will be inspected at check-in and you will be responsible for any loss or damage to the book. 

 

Supplies:

In addition to pencil/pens and paper, students need to bring the following items next class:

·        1- 1”, 3-ring binder with 4 dividers labeled:   1) 100 Facts;  2) Assignments;   3) Notes; 4) Tests

·        1 Mead Composition Book – Cloth binding (not spiral) Wal-Mart/Target $0.50

 

Grading:

I will be available on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:45-8:15 am for tutoring and make-up work.  If these times are not convenient please schedule a time with me.

 

This is a very hands-on class. Your presence and participation is necessary for you to succeed.

 

Your overall grade will be based on your performance in the following areas:

  1. Classroom and Homework assignments               30%               
  2. Evaluations (Quizzes and Exams)                          40%               
  3. Laboratory participation and Lab write-ups           30%   

 

Make-up Work:

It is your responsibility to:

·        check the “I Was Out” file for missed work.

·        schedule a time with me, outside of class to complete missed labs. 

·        complete and turn in all missed work  5 days from the date you were absent.

·        contact me regarding any questions you may have regarding missed assignments.  

Classroom Rules:

  1. Students will be READY, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE.

Classroom Procedures:

  1. Students will quietly enter the class and be seated.
  2. Students will copy the agenda from the board and complete the Daily Warm-up.
  3. Students will request permission from the teacher to go to the restroom and will sign out/in and carry the pass.  
  4. Students will raise their hand and be recognized by the teacher before speaking during class. 
  5. Students will remain seated at the end of class until dismissed by the teacher.

Please bring the following to your next science class:

1.      Mead Composition Book (not a spiral) - Wal-Mart/Target  $0.50

2.      Safety Contract – signed by you and parent guardian

3.      OU Informed Consent Form – signed by parent (if giving consent)

4.      Parent Survey
