Latin 7th - Lonney Corder-Agnew |

SALVETE DISCIPULI ET PARENTES! Welcome to Introductory Latin! Latin has the reputation of being a very difficult subject. It is not especially hard for the students who keep up with their assignments, but it cannot be a blow-off class! Latin is a valuable tool for many reasons. It is the original Romance language, from which French, Italian, Portugese, Romanian and Spanish developed. The grammatical structure is similar to those of the Germanic and Slavic languages. Learning Latin makes all those other languages simpler as well as helping with analytical skills. Also, more than 60% of English comes from Latin root words. This is going to be a very full year. Students will begin to learn the preliminaries of Latin grammar and vocabulary as well as some Roman history, culture and mythology. The seventh grade teachers strongly urge that all students have two three-inch,3-ring notebook binders for each day. One section of their binder, with five dividers, should be reserved exclusively for Latin. The students' final exams each quarter are open-note tests for which they will need their notebooks. The notebook dividers should have the following titles: 1. Phrases and Words of the Day (POTDs) 2. Vocabulary & Grammar 3. Assignments 4. History, Culture & Mythology (HCM) 5. Quizzes & Tests My school e-mail is lacorder-agnew@okcps.org. I encourage all parents to e-mail me if you have any questions. I urge all students to ask me in person. I'm in my classroom from 8:10 - 4:10 every day except Tuesday, when I have morning gym duty.
