  Students and Parents/Guardians:

        Welcome to a "stellar" year at Belle Isle!  I would like to share with you my vision of life in 7^th Grade Language Arts.

        First of all, I do consider language usage an art form.  Just as in music or dance, one must practice and show creativity to become an “artist” of the English language.  This year we will study the art of storytelling (Literature) and the art of combining sound, rhythm, and imagery (Poetry).  We will explore the various modes of written expression and create our own masterpieces, honing our editing skills along the way (Composition, Mechanics, Spelling).  In addition, we will practice performing these works of art and being a good, respectful audience for our classmates (Speaking and Listening).

        Secondly, I believe learning can and should be enjoyable, maybe even fun!  I try to keep things interesting, challenging, and lively.  I employ brain-friendly techniques to engage all students.  Cooperative learning or “group work” will be used when appropriate.
