Welcome to 6th Grade French!

This year we are using a text book called "Discovering French".  The book has a corresponding website where students can practice with vocabulary flashcards.  There is also an online workbook and self check quizzes. I would strongly suggest that both parents and students check out this website.  It is a great way to study! The address is www.classzone.com

I also have available 30 copies of a "Take Home Tutor" cd-rom that goes along with the text.  I will be checking these out by class at the beginning of the school year.  The cd-rom only needs to be loaded onto your computer and the original copy returned to me.  The cd-rom provides different activities that go along with the units in the book and it scores the answers.

Rules:

I expect everyone to be prompt, prepared, and polite.  I only allow water in the classroom.

Everyday Supplies:

Everyday you will need to bring your French notebook, French workbook, AR book, writing utensil, paper, and your copy of 100 facts.

Homework:

Homework will be written everyday on the board, each student is expected to copy this daily agenda into their personal agenda.  Homework is assigned on a regular basis.  Oftentimes homework can be started the last ten minutes of class, and if the student chooses to use this time wisely the work can be completed.  All homework is to be turned in the next class period.

Class Participation:

Participate as much as you can in class discussions.  When you have contributions to make or know the answer, raise you hand and volunteer. Being prepared for class with ALL necessary materials is also part of your participation grade.

Quizzes and Tests:

Quizzes may be given with or without notice.  BE PREPARED DAILY. Tests will be announced in advance, and make up 50% of the students overall grade.

Absences:

If absent, there is no need to interrupt class and ask me for the missing work.  There is a calendar in the back of the room with the agenda written on it.  If a worksheet was assigned on the day missed there are corresponding folders on the wall with the worksheets in it.  Other work missed may be from the text or workbook which the student has.  If the folder on the wall is empty please see me after class or before or after school.  More information on absent work can be found in the handbook.

Questions or Extra Help:

I arrive usually by 7:15 am and stay until 4:10 pm.  I encourage anyone to arrange a time to come and see me if necessary.  I can also be reached by email at jmreynolds@okcps.org.
