Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School
What is BIEMS?

Frequently Asked Admissions Questions:

The school received the Oklahoma City School Board’s approval on January 12, 1998 and opened with its first class of sixth graders in August, 1998.  The original proposal for the school was submitted by a group of parents and other members of the community.

The school is now incorporated as a membership-supported, Oklahoma not-for-profit corporation.  Parents make up the majority of the corporation members, who elect a board of directors.   As in a typical corporation, the board of directors, through their various committees,  determine policies such as academic requirements, admission standards, student ethics, uniform policies, and curriculum.  Policies are then carried out by the principal, teachers, students, and parents.

In short, the school is a public school, but with more direct parental involvement.  In this spirit of self-determination, the school has developed a challenging Core Knowledge curriculum, in an atmosphere which prepares students for high school, college, and beyond.
