The Role of the PAWS Advisor

bulletMeet with a group of students once a month for approximately one hour.  Provide a positive, safe environment.
bulletAttempt to know personally each student who is in your PAWS group.  Show empathy and concern for your group members.
bulletFamiliarize students with the school environment.  Provide general information regarding facilities, procedures, programs, and traditions.
bulletFollow up with group members regarding academic progress, grade reports, attendance, and special concerns.
bulletFacilitate communication between group members' parents/guardians and school.
bulletBuild cohesiveness among your assigned group of students so that they might be resources to one another.
bulletSeek assistance for students whose needs are beyond the limits of PAWS or classroom guidance.
bulletAttend in-service/staff development regarding the PAWS program.
bulletImplement the activities in the PAWS curriculum.
