The Role of the PAWS Advisor
Meet with a group of students once a month for approximately one hour. Provide a positive, safe environment.
Attempt to know personally each student who is in your PAWS group. Show empathy and concern for your group members.
Familiarize students with the school environment. Provide general information regarding facilities, procedures, programs, and traditions.
Follow up with group members regarding academic progress, grade reports, attendance, and special concerns.
Facilitate communication between group members' parents/guardians and school.
Build cohesiveness among your assigned group of students so that they might be resources to one another.
Seek assistance for students whose needs are beyond the limits of PAWS or classroom guidance.
Attend in-service/staff development regarding the PAWS program.
Implement the activities in the PAWS curriculum.
