Why do we need a program like PAWS at JMHS?  This is a vitally important question.  The answer can be found in several areas that reflect unique aspects of our school.

First of all, there is a desire to provide each student with a caring adult advocate.  Students need a resource person available to them throughout the school year.  It is also our desire that the members of each PAWS group be resource persons for each other.  These aspects of our program are in agreement with the Strategic Aims for OKCPS.  The aims we will work toward include --

bulletImproving lifelong learning by setting realistic goals, and developing educational  and career plans.

bulletImproving operations by establishing a network of communication among students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

bulletCreating a safe environment for students by improving respect for school property and encouraging healthy and positive attitudes toward the educational process.

bulletImproving partnerships with the surrounding community as well as within John Marshall.

PAWS builds on these concerns by working to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all students.

Second, the John Marshall program is designed for all students and involves all school personnel.  The curriculum is organized, planned, and integrated as part of the total educational process.  By working together, we can help students learn more effectively and efficiently.
