M I N U T E S

 

President, Shawn Abernathy, officially called the meeting to order at 12:05pm.

 

Beth Croll, acting Secretary in Viva Beasley’s absence, read the Minutes of the previous meeting.  Christi Savage moved to approve the Minutes as read, Kristi Warren seconded the motion and it passed.

 

No Financial Report was available.

 

Jackie Adney reported on Fund Raising.  The t-shirt and hoodie sales have been very profitable.  The artwork for the “One World, One School, One People” t-shirt will be ready soon and both long and short sleeved shirts will be available.  Special thanks to Lisa Seda and Beth Stanbrough for their help with sales.  It was suggested that the order form be placed on the Classes SAS website along with photographs of available products.

 

Shawn Abernathy gave the President’s report.  She applauded the parent, teachers and student participation at the OKCPS Board meeting pertaining to MAPS for Kids.  She thanked Rich and Lois Fuller for coordinating another very successful Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.  Possible dates for the spring fundraiser were suggested: April 18 or 25.  Several possible venues were discussed.  The pricing for this event was also discussed.  The committee will meet and bring its recommendations to the next meeting.

 

Beth Croll and Shawn Abernathy met with Pam Stottman, outgoing president of the Classen Alumni Association and she indicated that the Alumni Association had money available for needs of Classen SAS.  Books and sheet music were suggested items.  Valeria Harris is checking on needed classroom sets of books and will compile a list to be presented at either the February or March Alumni Association Meeting.  Asking the Alumni to fund the annual Valedictorian Dinner was also discussed.

 

The February PTSA General Meeting has been moved to Monday, February 11, 2008, at 6:00 p.m.  Immediately following the general meeting, a forum will be held concerning the Enterprise Model for Classen SAS.  A panel of experts will provide information followed by a question and answer session.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to send out a notice of the meeting to each household prior to the meeting and a follow-up summary after the meeting for those unable to attend.  Hoodies and t-shirts will be available for sale before and after the meeting and a notice will be sent out to encourage people to bring their box tops, ink cartridges, old cell phones to the meeting.

 

Valerie Harris gave the Principal’s report.  She reported that the teachers were very appreciative of the luncheon.  She also reported that Classen has three National Merit Scholarship Finalists this year, 23 IB valedictorians, 14 VPA valedictorians and 34 Junior Marshalls.  She indicated that Parent Teacher Conferences would be rescheduled to two evenings to be announced at a later date.  She stated that the faculty is gearing up for Spring testing.  The conflicts surrounding the date for Graduation were addressed and she advised that a new date had not yet been selected.

 

It was suggested that all standing committees should make periodic reports to the Board.  The timing and method of reporting will be discussed at the next meeting.
