Parents & Students,

The mission of Classen is to ensure that all students learn at high levels to become high quality academically prepared global citizens.  To accomplish this all students must take an active role in their education including a commitment to regular attendance.

Please review the following procedures all parents and students are responsible for in the event of a student absence:

·  When a parent has a student who needs to miss school for whatever reason (illness, orthodontist, family emergency, etc.) it is required that the parent call our attendance secretary, Debbie Coates, @ 556-5089 to excuse the absence NO LATER THAN the end of business on THE FOLLOWING DAY.  Failure to do so will result in a permanent unexcused absence and a student referral for Truancy (the OKCPS Code of Conduct will be followed).
Parents will NOT be able to clear the unexcused absence after the FOLLOWING DAY.

·   When checking out students for part of the day, the parent or student MUST sign out with Mrs. Coates in the attendance office BEFORE leaving campus.  Failure to do so will result in a permanent unexcused absence and a student referral for Truancy (the OKCPS Code of Conduct will be followed).
Parents will not be able to clear this unexcused absence unless the above policy is followed.

·   The OKCPS District policy states that a student must be in attendance a minimum of 88% of the time in order to earn credit for classes during the semester.  It is imperative to note that even excused absences count toward this total!  (This does not include school activity absences, but all other absences—excused or unexcused—count toward the minimum of 88%).
Even absences cleared by parents will count toward this total.

·   On the fifth unexcused absence in any course, a student will receive a no credit for that course.
Parents will not be able to clear this unexcused absence unless the above policy is followed.
