The next Classen Girl Scout meeting is this Thursday from 6-7:45 in the cafeteria and we will be working with one of the "STEM" Robots(Science,Technology,Engineering and Math) . All girls between 6th and 12th grade are welcome to come out and help us build the robot and learn about the Classen troop. If you have any questions about the meeting or the"STEM" robot please let us know..

Fall Tests and Dates

This is just a note to let you know about tests that will be given this fall. As usual, the EPAS (EXPLORE, PLAN, ACT) will be administered here at Classen. The agreement with the State Board of Regents states that for them to pay for the tests and scoring, all students in designated grade levels are to participate.

      TEST    DATE                                                      PROBABLE ROOMS
                                                                                    TO BE USED
EXPLORE (8th Graders)  Wed., Oct. 3                       Barnett, L. Allen, Thomas
                                                                                C. Brown, Library (Gean)

PLAN (Sophomores)   Tues., Oct. 9   Library,             Barmann, Bish, Warner

Practice ACT (Juniors)   Thurs., Oct. 11  Library,       Smith, Poole,
                                                                                   Waters/Boudreau/Pierce?

All of the above tests will take most of time blocks 1 and 2 (the higher the grade level, the more time is required). Teachers, if we are using your room, you will probably be needed to help administer (or cover a class for another teacher who is administering). Please let us know if another teacher is using your room during planning time.
The end of the 1st quarter is Oct. 17, which is the same date as the PSAT. The PSAT is a national test date; therefore we have no flexibility with its date. Please think about how this will affect your end of quarter and make adjustments if necessary.

PSAT  Wed., Oct. 17                                                     Library & other rooms

Mostly 10th & 11th graders     depending on # of students

The PSAT typically is started as soon as the 7:40 bell rings and continues until about 11 am. Middle school students will be allowed to quietly go to lunch if they are not testing, but since many rooms will be used for testing, we won’t be able to dismiss students from 2nd period until every one has completed testing. This is always a bit of a problem, and as before, we will work through it the best the day allows. We will need help in keeping the halls quiet during the testing, especially after the 2nd period.
We allow students in grades 8 through 11 to take the PSAT. It will cost $14 which will be due on Wednesday, October 10, so we can get a list of who is taking the test and how many rooms we will need. Make checks payable to Classen SAS and pay in the Finance Office. Most of you know that the PSAT is the qualifying test for juniors to become National Merit Semi-Finalists. We will bus juniors to the OCU School of Business for better testing conditions and they will be excused for time blocks 1, 2 and 3 (A day). We want to encourage as many sophomores as possible to also take the test as it gives good predictability information for success in AP classes. If you have any suggestions for improvement over previous years, please see Ms. Brady, Ms. Curry or me.

Goodsearch Update:  More than 250 new searches since 9/20  and at least 10 in the last hour (during end of the school-day pickup, no less) -
great job,  but we still need to up the number of searchers to make our minimum number of searches by Sunday.   Our challenge was to get 123 people to make 10 searches (just 2 per day) between 9/20 and 9/30... I have no idea how many people are searching or how often, but at 2 searches per person per day,  it would have taken a only few more than 25
people to accomplish what has been done since the 20th.

At this rate, If we can get more than 100 people searching, we'll smash the goal.  At a minimum, we need to at least double the number of people searching, and keep them searching at the current rate to meet the minimum goal by Sunday, after which searches will count toward the 2007-2008 fiscal year.  My math might be wrong, but you get the point,
right?

Please talk to your (fellow) students, forward the word to your personal e-mail lists and keep Good-Searching (powered by Yahoo) before you use that other search engine.

You can check our progress by clicking on "amount raised" on the  GoodSearch home page.

And please, please iTunes users, especially - remember to route your downloads through GoodShop, once you've gotten into iTunes, no need to go back until you've logged off iTunes... ditto the other GoodShop stores.

To the random teachers copied this email.  If you don't know about GoodSearch/GoodShop, please check the "classenparents@yahoogroups" postings that explain GoodSearch & GoodShop.  If you can stand to pass the word directly to your students, more's the better.  Thanks!
