UPCOMING TESTING OPPORTUNITIES
Four tests will be administered by CSAS Guidance/Counseling Department and faculty to Classen students during the month of October. These tests are all considered pre-tests and will help students, teachers, and parents to evaluate current progress, areas of strength, and areas of weakness. Descriptions, grades involved, and dates are as follows:
Practice ACT—Thursday, October 2, 2008, from 7:40—10:35: This test is an officially retired ACT test. It cannot be used for college admission but is a great baseline tool for juniors only. Students will receive their results along with their test booklets so they can “prep” for the national test dates next spring: February 7, April 4, June 13, 2009. Additional information about the national test dates can be found at www.act.org.
PLAN—Tuesday, October 7, 2008: This is a pre-ACT for sophomores only. There is no cost to the student; all Classen sophomores will be tested. The test contains four parts: English, reading, math, and science reasoning. Students will receive results and career information. It will be administered from 7:40—10:35.
EXPLORE—Thursday, October 9, 2008: This is also a pre-ACT at eighth grade level. There is no cost to the student; all Classen eighth graders will be tested. This test also contains English, reading, math, and science reasoning. Students will receive results and career information. It will be administered from 7:40—10:35.
PSAT—Wednesday, October 15, 2008: This is the national test date for the Preliminary SAT. It is specifically geared to juniors vying for National Merit competition but is a valuable tool for any student wanting “test experience.” It contains 2 verbal, 2 math, and 1 writing skills section. Although sophomores and juniors are especially encouraged to take the test, it is open to any Classen student. Cost for the test is $14.00 (check payable to CSAS). Deadline for registration is Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Remaining national test dates for the SAT are December 6, 2008; January 24, March 14, May 2, and June 6, 2009. Additional information about the national test dates can be found at www.collegeboard.org.
Students will be bringing home further information in the next few days. For questions, please feel free to e-mail your child’s counselor.
